In the Steps of Werner Herzog

I am usually a mountain person when it comes to trips. However, there is one place in the tropics that has always captured my interest, and that is the Amazon basin in the rain forests of Brazil. The Amazon basin is the largest drainage basin in the world. The river is larger in volume than the next 10 largest rivers in the world combined. At dinner one night, a friend mentioned the movie, Aguirre, The Wrath of God,... [Read more]
Talking with the Cheese, Club Med Brazil
June 17, 2008 | Written by Wayfarer Digital
How things change. There was a time when I viewed Club Med as a swinging singles destination, but with the new relaxed atmosphere and kid friendly grounds, Club Med has reinvented itself and continues to expand — not unlike the bug bite I received somewhere in Brazil. It was still the itchiest thing for several days after landing back home on Los Angeles. Of course, this is the small inconvenience of any destination... [Read more]
Club Med Rio das Pedras (video podcast)
May 23, 2008 | Written by Wayfarer Digital
Jason Fitzpartick of In The Know Traveler recently visited Club Med Rio das Pedras. On top of enjoying Club Med, we recommend exploring coastal Brazil with great sailing at Costa Verde, day trips to the wonderful colonial town of Paraty and Rio de Janeiro, and hiking in the nearby rain forest — or just stay put and enjoy the grounds at Club Med. Plan to relax, sun, and fun for the entire family. Don’t believe... [Read more]
A Day in Rio Das Pedras, Brazil
April 7, 2008 | Written by Devin Galaudet
The sun beats overhead and Maravilha dances alone on the stage with humidity heavy in the air – typical of a Brazilian summer. He gyrates and glides with style in precision to syncopated Brazilian samba. While he dances, I think of all the great Brazilian music, and that Maravilha is definitely a pro. Then something catches his eye in the distance. Abruptly, Maravilha halts his dance, turns off the music as disgust washes... [Read more]
The Green Coast of Brazil (video podcast)
March 1, 2008 | Written by Wayfarer Digital
This is the first video on my recent trip to Brazil. I grabbed my camera-ready tour guide, Paulo, for a brief interview on the area, an hour and a half outside of Rio de Janeiro, known as Costa Verde. Talk about green! As I am told, there are 365 small islands in the area, “One for each day,” that shelter the bay and keep it calm. It is an ideal place for boating, sightseeing, and relaxing.
And for more... [Read more]
The Costa Verde
February 20, 2008 | Written by Devin Galaudet
The last time I was in a boat, one half the passengers screamed for the lives. The other half thought about their mortality while clenching/using sea-sickness bags — I just kept popping Dramamine.
So when the idea of sailing anywhere sounded like a gamble. Fortunately, visiting Costa Verde in Brazil was a hedged bet.
For folks traveling to Rio de Janeiro, the Green Coast, is beautifully green and calm.... [Read more]
Tasty Salvador
October 7, 2007 | Written by Robin Garcia
Salvador, Brazil, for many tourists, appears as a city that never sleeps. In the day, the streets are filled with people on their way to work, older folk accompanied with their grandchildren on the way to a fruit market, and young people meeting friends on corners with backpacks over their shoulders. Then the sounds of Salvador become eclipsed by the occasional car blasting... [Read more]

In what could be the largest vote ever, the world will soon choose the New Seven Wonders of the World to stand alongside the Ancient Seven Wonders of the World.
