Cabbages and Condoms. Not exactly the most appetizing name for a restaurant, but upon learning about it from fellow travelers I was intrigued.
The restaurant was located a little out of the way along a dark side street. Considering its name I became slightly suspicious, until a concentration of fairy lights eventually appeared like an oasis in a desert and I was walking into the most atmospheric restaurant in Bangkok.
Cabbages and Condoms is a project set up to promote better understanding of family planning and to raise funds to support development activities for the non-profit Population and Community Development Association. The extensive menu showcases some of Thailand’s intriguing cuisine, including popular dishes such as Pad Thai and Green Curry, as well as less known dishes ranging between delicate taro rice cakes, pungent fish stew and fantastic dessert options.
Knowing that I can eat my way to support charity efforts, I ordered enough to feed a football team. It's the only time I've ever eaten while being among figures made out of condoms but my experience was great. After a feast fit for a king, I happily walked away with a condom in place of an after dinner mint.
Ok, this is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience! What a strange and fascinating find.
Haha not just once! I went to dinner there twice on different occasions 😉
This is awesome! I love when restaurants take a unique approach especially when it’s for a good cause!
If there was any place in the world that should be promoting good food and condoms it would be Bangkok. Glad you found this place.
