Jamaica (June 28, 2006)"”Getting friendly with the locals is about to take on a new meaning for guests of Goldeneye, the chic Island Outpost resort and former hideaway of James Bond creator Ian Fleming. Stingray City, Jamaica located at James Bond Beach a mere 10-minute walk from Goldeneye’s back door in neighboring Oracabessa – is a hot new attraction affording visitors the rush of getting up close and personal with one of Jamaica’s most splendid indigent creatures.
“Stingray City is the latest addition to Goldeneye’s exciting amenities and excursions,” said Jenny Wood, the resort’s general manager. “Goldeneye provides more than just an upscale island hideaway the breathtaking experience of meeting majestic stingrays face-to-face makes a visit here even more unforgettable.”
With the leadership of experienced guides, four groups a day now have the opportunity to meet the twenty-seven stingrays that call James Bond Beach home. Visitors six years old and up can work with guides individually for their own personal stingray experience feeding the creatures, touching their silky wings and posing for photos. Complimentary snorkeling gear gives a clear underwater view of Goldeneye’s new neighbors in action.
After their encounter, guests can relax at the James Bond Beach Bar & Grill or shop at the James Bond Beach Craft Shop, which offers logo items, Stingray Tattoos and unique community crafted gift items. Admission for the stingray experience, which last approximately 45 minutes, is $55 for adults and $25 for children. Goldeneye guests can enjoy arrival to Stingray City by Jet Ski or kayak.
Dashing 007 originated at Goldeneye, a 15-acre seaside hideaway which blossomed around the home of Ian Fleming, who wrote 13 of the spy novels here. Today, Fleming’s retreat is a boutique resort laced with beaches, tropical forest, caves and secluded nooks. Intimate and informal, this idyll now consisting of five villas attracts celebrities and other lovers of simple chic and understated elegance.
