(Hong Kong, May 17, 2007) – A mystical journey to a basement on Wyndham Street, Yun Fu, which means "Residence on Wyndham" in Chinese, is the latest venture by Aqua Restaurant Group's Calvin Yeung.
Designed to recall an ancient Chinese mansion house with discreet heavy oak doors which open onto the street, Yun Fu takes diners on a culinary adventure of China's northern ethnic minorities, with strong Tibetan influences.
Guests enter Yun Fu through the large wooden front doors, and descend down a Buddha-lined staircase which opens into a 5,000 square foot enchanted dungeon-style bar and dining area lined with red lanterns, colourful antique furniture and Hadda silks.
The space is divided into three main sections: the main restaurant that seats 80 or 110 banquet style, a bar with a standing capacity of 80 and two private rooms that seat 16 and up to 20 respectively.
The bar leads to the main dining hall via a curved corridor, enticing guests to ponder what awaits them. Either side of the sleek corridor lie the spacious VIP rooms and kitchens, concealed behind traditional wooden doors with transparent reddened windows like the façade of a traditional Chinese home.
Yun Fu serves an array of beautifully presented gourmet Chinese dishes from diverse regions including Shanghai, Beijing and Tibet.
Signature dishes include succulent Roasted whole duck marinated in Chinese tea leaves and herbs (HK$438), Wok-fried fish fillet with golden salty egg yolk (HK$288) and Marinated lamb ribs roasted with various herbs (HK$488).
The private dining rooms provide the perfect venue for intimate get-togethers and parties whilst the circular bar area of Yun Fu, which opens daily, is ideal for pre and post-dinner drinks and features an extensive cocktail menu.
A unique highlight of the cocktail menu is a range of signature cocktails based on traditional Chinese wines and liquor. Some of these are Bo Ba, (HK$88) and Hui (HK$88).
The bar area also features a curved wall projection screen which shows quintessential scenes from vintage Chinese martial arts movies silently on loop.
A line-up of exciting and well-known visiting DJs also spin at the bar area, providing a cool upbeat party atmosphere later in the evening.
"The interior design is characterised by the theme of a 'circle' which, in Chinese tradition, signifies 'unity' and 'infinity'," says Calvin Yeung who personally designed Yun Fu. "…everything from the circular bar, the waved ceiling, the curved corridor and the many circular Chinese baskets that we use to serve as presentation bowls are reminiscent of a quaint Chinese village – I want people to feel like they've stepped into a different culture".
Yun Fu opens for lunch Mondays to Fridays from 12 until 3pm and is open daily for dinner from 6pm "“ 11:30pm
