(MYANMAR – June 2009) – As of Friday, the 15th of January 2010, the central and western part of Myanmar will be one of the few areas of the globe where anannular solar eclipse is visible.

The eclipse can be admired at its best from Shwebo, one of the former capitals of Myanmar and the city that gave birth to Myanmar’s last royal dynasty. The city is located around 2 hour journey from Myanmar second biggest city, Mandalay. Shwebo will be in fact right on the line where the sun will be obscured by the moon. Another city where a nice view shall be had is Monywa. In both Bagan and Mandalay the phenomenon is also visible. Because of the clear and generally cloud free skies to be expected in Myanmar during January this will be by far the best location worldwide where to witness this rare event.

Please refer to the following website for a more detailed map of the areas which are poised to witness this rare event.http://xjubier.free.fr/en/site_pages/solar_eclipses/ASE_20100115_pg01.html.
