Mexican Independence Day, a celebration of Mexico’s independence from Spanish rule, begins every September 15th at 11 pm in every single city and town in Mexico. At that time, in all areas of Mexico City, the Municipal Presidents along with the country’s President ring a bell similar to the historic liberty bell that Father Hidalgo rang to call the people almost 200 years ago. Then they give the El Grito or The Cry and the crowds of thousands echo it back. After the last cry the Municipal Presidents wave the flag, ring the bell, and the National Anthem is sung. The parties continue into the night with food, fireworks and performers. On September 16th, there are parades, horseback rider performances and more.
The five-star Marquis Reforma offers guests handsome surroundings in a post-modern, Art Deco influenced style. Most of the guest rooms are suites.
