CANCUN, Mexico (May 2, 2007) – Prospective visitors to Cancun, travel planners, students and media will now have a vibrant resource for discovering everything that Cancun has to offer, from live web cams and photo tours to a versatile interactive map. With just a few clicks of a mouse on www.cancun.info, users can easily navigate the site’s newly tailored functions, including a user-friendly and bilingual format.
“Two of the newest features, an interactive map and destination web cams, are making their debut on the site,” explains Arturo Escaip Manzur, CEO of the Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB). “Armed with a virtual ‘looking glass,’ our web users can explore every inch of Cancun, from the downtown and hotel zones to tucked-away Puerto Morelos.” The interactive map tool can be found via the “Maps” link on the website’s sidebar.
The new web cam feature enables visitors to view Cancun like never before – live and online. Ocean views overlook the Caribbean Sea from both Punta Cancun and Yamil Lu’um, meaning “hilly land.” A truly unique Mayan architecture site, Yamil Lu’um faces the Mexican Caribbean from Cancun’s hotel zone. Additional views show the Nichupte Lagoon and Cancun’s main Kukulcan Boulevard. By viewing the cameras via the “Photo Tour & Web Cams” link, web users can see clearly enough to watch real ocean waves rolling onto Cancun’s shore.
More of the site’s latest features include colorful photo tours and the ability to send virtual postcards to friends anywhere in the world. Additional details are instantly available via prominent sidebar links, including Visitor Information, Accommodations, Activities & Entertainment, Groups and Conventions, and current weather conditions.
“This re-launch represents all of the great strides and successes we’ve made,” Escaip explains. “We’re sure the improved site will show the dedication and commitment we pledge to the millions of travelers who visit our growing destination each year.”
The Cancun CVB website is also utilizing the increasingly popular .travel domain to reach travelers from across the World Wide Web. Unlike “.com”, “.net”, “.org” or any of the generic top-level domain names available on the Internet today, .travel is designed specifically for the travel and tourism industry, ensuring that all .travel web sites are hosted by authentic travel-related businesses and organizations only.
This coexisting domain, www.cancun.travel, automatically directs visitors to the destination’s official website, ensuring an authentic, secure and credible source of Cancun-related information. Only www.cancun.travel and www.cancun.info are the official online sources for the Cancun CVB.
Adding to their growing list of web outreach projects, the Cancun CVB is also planning to launch an online news and media center designed specifically for members of the press. The site, currently underway, will include recent press releases, a press kit, images, FAM trip announcements, and other resources. In the meantime, media can visit the “Press Room / Salon de Prensa” link on the current site for more information.
