Coconut Grove, FL, June 2007 — Tuscan Way has announced the opening of its sixth location for its highly-regarded cooking vacations – Villa Torremozza – in the foothills just outside Florence. The 16th-century farmhouse, set amid olive and chestnut groves, has been restored to reflect its Tuscan roots and incorporate modern conveniences and is a working vineyard, producing its own wines and olive oils. Guests can choose vacation packages of four to seven days which include classes taught in the style of “La Cucina Povera Toscana” — the Tuscan peasant’s cuisine, excursions to nearby medieval villages while enjoying the foods and wines of Southern Tuscany, and attending local food festivals and wine tastings. Departures are year round with prices range from $1,495 per person, double for four days to $2,990 for the full week.

The cooking vacations held at the villa are of the same intimate nature as the company’s five other locations — Casa Innocenti, Villa Castelletti, Villa Gaia, La Locanda del Prete and Villa Poggiarello: hands-on cooking classes led by an accomplished chef, Francesco, along with his daughter Caterina, specializing in the use of fresh seasonal and natural ingredients with vegetarian options, small groups of four to 12, comfortable surroundings and a member-of-the-family atmosphere not found in more formal schools. A wide assortment of excursions accommodate most guest interests including: Vallombrosa Monastery, where Galileo began his studies in 1575; the Estate of Frescobaldi, makers of Chianti wines since 1760; a day of shopping and touring in Florence; Poppi, well known for its 12th-century castle; and the beautiful city of Siena.

Each of the six private apartments have sweeping views of the Tuscan countryside as well as private bath, full kitchen, sitting areas and access to outdoor sitting areas, gardens and in-ground pool. The apartments hold from two to six persons. All courses include accommodations, meals, wine, escorted visits through the local markets, restaurants and vineyards, transfers to/from Florence and local transportation for scheduled excursions. Cooking classes and wine/olive oil tastings range from three cooking courses, one wine tasting and one olive oil tasting during the seven-day package, to one cooking class and one wine tasting during the four-day package.
