(LIMA, PERU) РGiven the situation of tourists unable to access Machu Picchu due to limited capacity, Rocio Merino, Director of Tourism Promotion of PromPer̼, has stated:
1.    The Master Plan of the archaeological park of Machu Picchu, which was elaborated by the ministries of Environment and Culture established in 2005 that no more than 2,500 visitors per day should enter the citadel.
2.     In May 2011, the Ministry of Culture created an electronic system to purchase entrance tickets to the citadel. This system determines the exact number of visitors and it is blocked every day once 2,500 entrances are purchased. The General Audit Council of the Republic of Peru supervises the fulfillment of this disposition.
3.    Tickets can be purchased by internet through the web site www.machupicchu.gob.pe all over the world and by authorized agencies locally. Agencies and tour operators in general are aware of this system.
4.    The Ministry of Culture recommends all agencies and tourism operators to avoid false expectations, because this causes an excess demand, which could endanger the Sanctuary.
5.     PromPerú through its Tourist Information and Assistance Offices – Iperu at national level, its network of representatives in international markets and online channels is supporting the Regional Direction of Culture in Cusco in the distribution of this communication informing of this restriction.
