PANAMA CITY, Panama "“ August 29, 2007 "“ Vacation is a time to escape the stress and demands of everyday life. To further guests' relaxation and connection to nature while staying at the Gamboa Rainforest Resort at the Panama Canal, the resort has recently expanded its range of activities to include yoga and tai chi classes. Both are offered for all levels and are designed to create a fresh start for adventure-filled days. However, it is the stunning rainforest setting that makes these classes a once in a lifetime experience.
As the morning mists rise above the Chagres River and Lake Gutun, the sun awakens from behind the hills of Soberania National Park. Gamboa guests can witness the start of the new day while practicing Hatha yoga, a popular holistic practice that prepares the body for the spiritual path via physical and breathing exercises. The class is offered on a spacious open-air terrace with breathtaking views of the river, where it meets the Panama Canal. The resort's tai chi class lasts more than an hour and emphasizes health, meditation and martial arts instruction with a setting that overlooks the surrounding tropical landscaping and beautiful rolling hills.
"Gamboa Rainforest Resort has always been a haven for nature lovers and adventure seekers," said Edgar Perez, the resort's general manager. "The health and comfort of our guests is our utmost priority. These new classes offer a relaxing and beneficial alternative to our nature tours and activities. It's a great combination."
The yoga classes are scheduled Saturdays at 7 a.m. for a fee of $3. Tai chi is offered Fridays at 7 a.m. and is complimentary.
