Experience the real Latin America with Intrepid and help the world breathe easy

Book any Intrepid Travel Latin American adventure during February and March 2007 and 10% of the trip cost will be donated to the Intrepid Foundation's Amazon Fund to help save the natural wonder.

Away from the rumba filled streets, the wildlife rich oceans and the Incan filled highlands lay the lungs of the Earth – the Amazon Rainforest. The Amazon is a truly spectacular part of the planet. As the largest tropical rainforest in the world, it shelters unique plant and wildlife and is home to thousands of indigenous communities. It is also creates 20% of the world’s oxygen.

Devastatingly, the Amazon is under threat. Each day huge tracks of forest are logged or burnt to make way for cattle grazing, soy farming and mining. As the Amazon disappears, approximately half of the worlds' animal and plant species are under threat, indigenous communities are losing their traditional homelands and the earth faces extreme climate change.

In line with Intrepid’s responsible travel philosophy, we will be donating 10% of the land costs from trips to Latin America booked between 1 February and 31 March 2007 to the Intrepid Foundation's Amazon Fund. Each and every Intrepid Latin American journey will help fund projects that are working towards a sustainable future for the Amazon. These projects are educating and empowering locals to choose the future of their land, encourage sustainable land use and help to stop illegal deforestation.

After being named Best Tour Operator at the 2006 Responsible Tourism Awards in the UK, Intrepid feels that we have an amazing opportunity to broaden our responsible travel commitments in Latin America and help protect a region that gives life to so many.

There is so much to discover in Latin America and on an Intrepid trip our travelers will see more than just the usual sights. Imagine encountering a 200 year old tortoise in the Galapagos, sharing a meal with a family on the islands of Lake Titicaca or breathing in crisp air while trekking past the icy blue glaciers of Patagonia. The real Latin America offers a truly captivating experience, unlike any other destination.
