Miami, Florida "“ March 13, 2007 – The official inauguration of the Meliá Berlin, the first Meliá branded hotel in Germany, took place February 15. The event was attended by a number of business, political and cultural dignitaries, including the Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sol Meliá Hotels & Resorts, Sebastián Escarrer; the Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit and the Spanish Ambassador of Berlin, Gabriel Busquets.

During the inauguration, Mr. Wowereit expressed his pleasure with the growth of tourism in Berlin in recent years. He also emphasized the importance of attracting companies with the experience and knowledge of Sol Meliá.

Mr. Busquets spoke of the importance of the presence of Spanish companies in Germany, and the positive affects it has on the culture and business of both countries.

Mr. Escarrer thanked both for their support and remarked on the alignment of the hotel's brand attributes with Berlin's cutting-edge and cosmopolitan nature. Escarrer said he hopes the hotel will become a reference point of Spanish and Latin passion and character in a city immersed in significant urban and infrastructure improvements. The hotel "further emphasizes the presence and interests Sol Meliá has in Germany, our second most important feeder market," stated Escarrer.

A cocktail reception featured the latest trends in international cuisine, particularly new German and Spanish dishes by famous Spanish chef Dani García. The event featured live jazz, dance and Spanish music, as well as a live performance of the original Fan Dance (a dance that is a fusion of Asian and Spanish culture).
