The sixth father and son tournament to be held at the home of golf promises another truly international field. In all, golfers from 18 different countries including New Zealand, Japan, the United States of America, Sweden and Malaysia, to name a few, have competed in the first five tournaments, held in honor of the legendary Old Tom Morris and his son Tommy.
A true pioneer and exponent of golf, Old Tom Morris elevated the sport from its primitive roots as a legendary greenkeeper, course designer and professional golfer. Winning the British Open a staggering four times in the 1860's, Morris remains the oldest person to have won the event at the age of 46 with his son Tommy winning at the tender age of 17. Tommy himself went on to win four Opens in a row. 138 years on, Morris and young Tommy's achievements are once again commemorated as fathers and sons from across the world are invited to play in a tournament hosted, in the main, by courses designed and kept by Old Tom himself.
Held over five days, the tournament is 72 holes of competition golf over St Andrews New Course, Kingsbarns Golf Links, Crail Balcomie and culminating at the legendary Old Course. There is availability for a maximum of 48 golfers (24 teams). The minimum age of entry is 14 years and the handicap limit is 24. Please note that father/son-in-laws are eligible for this event too.
THE NEW COURSE "“ 6604 yards "“ par 71
This course was designed by the famous Old Tom Morris and is an undulating course similar in characteristics to the Old Course. Opened for play in 1896, the New Course lies in position, age and character between the Old Course and Jubilee. Were it not for the proximity of its more illustrious and ancient neighbour, there is no doubt that many Open Championships and other major events would have been fought out over the testing and demanding oldest New Course in the world.
KINGSBARNS GOLF LINKS "“ 6,174 yards "“ par 72
The most recent addition to Fife's golf coast has quickly developed a reputation as one of the finest links courses in Scotland and was chosen as a venue for the Dunhill Links Championship in 2001 along with its more established neighbours Carnoustie and the Old Course. The designer Kyle Philips has used the spectacular coastal landscape along with traditional links design to produce a must-play course that sweeps around bays and meanders through dunes. Although only opened for play in 2000, golf was originally played on the links here as long ago as 1793 when Kingsbarns Golf Club was first formed making it the world's 11th oldest club.
CRAIL – 5922 yards – Par 69
Perched on the edge of the North Sea on the very point of the golfing country of Fife, the Crail Golfing Society’s course at Balcomie is picturesque with stunning views across the North Sea towards the mountains of Angus. The course was designed by Old Tom Morris in 1895 and is highly regarded both for its testing holes and the standard of its greens. It is certainly one of the Scottish classics and is the world’s seventh oldest golf club with the first eight holes of the course being opened in 1786.
THE OLD COURSE "“ 6933 yards "“ par 72
Golf has been played on the Old Course at St Andrews for more than 600 years, and has become the cradle of the game of golf, its cultural home, the Mecca to which every golfer aspires to make pilgrimage during their golfing life. To stand on the first tee in front of the Royal & Ancient clubhouse is to stand on the most inviting fairway in the game of golf. Although significantly adjusted by the hand of Old Tom Morris, the course is essentially a natural course, slowly evolving over time.
