TERME DI SATURNIA SPA & GOLF RESORT ANNOUNCES THE OPENING OF ITS CHAMPIONSHIP COURSE
Located in the heart of Tuscany's Maremma region, Terme di Saturnia Spa & Golf Resort has long served as a luxury spa destination; however, the resort is now proud to provide its guests with the game of golf as it announces the opening of the first nine holes of its championship golf course. This exquisite course, which will be opened exclusively to hotel guests on December 1, 2007 and to the general public in spring 2008, will further advance the Terme di Saturnia philosophy of overall well-being of the mind and body.
With the game of golf's combined emphasis on sport and relaxation, Terme di Saturnia's new course will successfully compliment the "Mediterranean Lifestyle," an equal combination of a balanced life, physical activity and a healthy diet, which the resort aims to provide to each guest during their stay. The goal in developing the course was to ensure that each golfer's well-being improves during play. Designed to challenge the more advanced sportsman, the course is also enjoyable for the novice golfer as each hole provides the perfect balance of difficulty. In addition to the general course, the resort also features a 361-yard driving range, perfect for pre-game warm up, and an on-site professional golf trainer is available daily to help improve players' skill.
Set upon 247 acres adjacent to the resort, the all-season golf course was designed by the internationally-renowned architect, Ronald Fream. To ensure that the natural surroundings and environment were not compromised, the course was carefully created to receive ecological certification from the Italian Golf Federation.
Each of the nine holes was expertly designed with various approaches, allowing golfers to take in the spectacular Tuscan setting. As golfers play through the course they will take in the poetic panoramas provided by the nearby medieval villages of Saturnia, Montemerano and Poggio Murella with Monte Amiata as its backdrop. Further, the surrounding countryside is cultured with wheat, sunflowers, oats and olive groves "“ transforming the game into an experience for all the senses.
Terme di Saturnia Spa & Golf Resort features 140 guestrooms, including 65 junior suites, three suites and two grand suites, state-of-the-art spa with 48 treatment rooms, two restaurants, an Aldo Coppola Hair Salon, a conference center with meeting room for up to 250 people, six outdoor and two indoor pools, a replica of a traditional Roman bath house, fitness center, tennis court, practice green, boutique and art gallery, and the new nine-hole golf course.
A true medical spa with a staff of 45 therapists and five medical doctors, the spa features therapies for beauty, stress management and thermal and hydrotherapy treatments based on the area's unique thermal waters which date back to the Etruscan period. The 3,000-year old thermal pool has been flowing continuously into the natural crater nestled at the center of the resort, containing precious minerals and salts which were found to have healing effects on aches and pains of the ancient Romans.
Daily and weekly rates include the use of the resort's thermal pools, Roman Bath with sauna and steam bath, and thermal water falls. The rates also include a guided morning hike, use of the gym, not including classes, and a reserved deck chair and sun umbrella in the pool's park. Golfers can enjoy the resort's golf course and driving range for an additional fee.
