FINLAND ICE MARATHON 15-19 February, 2006, KUOPIO
Finland’s biggest international ice-skating event, the Finland Ice Marathon is a fun-filled winter event that attracts a total of around 9500 participants. The Finland Ice Marathon will be held for the 23rd time between February 15 and 19, 2006 and takes place on the magnificent lake-ice track of Kuopio. The marathon is arranged by the Kuopio Skating Club.

The first two days are open for everyone willing to try their skills on the ice. Approximately 9500 skating enthusiasts are expected to participate.

The programme highlights:
• Competitive Series 200km, 100km and 50km races
• Finnish kick-sled championships (100km track)
• Recreational series 12,5km

FINNISH DESIGN IN THE WILDERNESS
Design House Idoli was opened in 8.9.2005 near Ivalo in the northern part of Finnish Lapland. Design House Idoli offers an adventure in beauty and culture based on Finnish top-level design and the natural wilderness. North Lapland’s travel organizers, hotels and programme service enterprises can now offer their quality-conscious clients a new, impressive place to visit. A special guided service is available for groups and comprises a guided exhibition, DVD presentation of our design ‘idols’ e.g. Nokia & Iittala plus refreshments and snacks served in the HELMI glass kota (Lapp tepee), There is also a possibility to purchase products on display (not including mobile phones).

Idoli is on the shores of Lake Ukonjärvi at the southernmost cove of the Lake Inari. Ivalo Airport is situated about 15 kilometres away. THE ELVES’ COTTAGE in TAIVAANVALKEAT
Taivaanvalkeat is a unique location for groups looking for high standard of accommodation, a bit of luxury and heavenly food. LAINIO SNOW VILLAGE
Situated only a 20-minute drive from the airport at Kittila and 15 minutes from the village of Ylläsjarvi, the Lainio Snow Village is surrounded by beautiful snow-covered woodland and is ideally located for Levi Ski resort. This unusual assembly of buildings is constructed entirely of ice. The snow-walled village comprises of a Snow Hotel, an Ice Bar, art gallery, a collection of fantastic ice and snow sculptures in the courtyard, an amazing ice maze and snow slides for children, young and old.
Wander round the ice maze, enjoy a warm juice drink at the ice bar or browse among the souveneir stalls – made from ice of course! And if you need to warm up there is a large traditional tent or cabin with a welcoming heath.
